Brett Walker
CNS, the Monterey Institute of International
Studies (US)
Internship: June 2008 to September 2008
"My time at the Arab Institute for Security
Studies was an unforgettable and unparalleled
learning experience. I went to the Institute
hoping to come away with a better understanding
of nuclear proliferation issues in the Middle
East. My three months there gave me that and
much more. The office staff not only supported
and facilitated my research, but also helped me
to understand proliferation within the larger
context of regional security and the political
complexities of the Middle East. I felt that
they were truly interested in making my sure my
experience was a rich one. Institute staff
always found ways to put my skills to use -
whether it was by contributing to the monthly
security bulletin, helping in the planning of
conferences, or participating in regular office
meetings. The summer I spent with them in Amman
gave me invaluable education in Middle East
security issues. Students interested in this
field would do well to consider spending time
there. "
