Meeting Announcment

The setback in 2015 NPT revcon resulted in exceptional crisis facing the regime. This negative development should not stop our support to disarmament. The inability of 2015 NPT revcon to adopt a final document lead many to predict serious complications facing the non- proliferation regime. Perhaps the NPT is currently facing its most difficult crisis since inception NPT is the only internationally adopted treaty designed to limit nuclear disarmament and to curb proliferation. The international community should not allow this regime to collapse or to be weakened. Failure of 2015 review conference should not stop us from pursuing innovative mechanisms to resolving the current deadlock The Middle East represent a serious challenge facing the non-proliferation regimes, the region is one of the few standing obstacles against achieving the universality of NPT, CWC, CTBT ... and other instruments. The public needs to be assured of the capability of these instruments. --- The important question is, how can we restore confidence and revive the process !! Recent surveys indicate the total absence of courses/curriculums dealing with non- proliferation and disarmament in Arab academic institutions. To address this reported weakness, it is clear that there is an urgent need to develop capacities and build awareness within students and young journalists on issues of disarmament and proliferation. Promoting awareness within these specified sectors will reflect positively and would promote interest in society at large. Students and young journalists are potential shakers of governments and capable of shaping public opinion, yet their involvement needs to be regulated and structured. To deal with this weakness and to achieve project objectives, ACSIS plans for a regional training session targeting students & young journalists. Implementing this project will promote security and will contribute to overall goals of development. The meeting will address the conclusion of the P5+1 agreement with Iran and its impact on the region. The Amman meeting will witness a number of components and specialized events, including special discussion by the Nuclear Forum, Arab Consortium for Security and Nuclear Non-Proliferation, a workshop designated for journalists as well as others.
